Cameron County officials reopened all the county beaches on South Padre Island Tuesday afternoon.
The beaches had been closed to vehicular traffic since the weekend because of the high tides and undriveable conditions caused by Tropical Storm Beta.
Beginning at 1 p.m. tourists were allowed to drive on to the following beaches:
- Boca Chica Beach
- County Beach Access No. 3
- County Beach Access No. 4
- County Beach Access No. 5
- County Beach Access No. 6
- E.K. Atwood Park Pavilion
During the closure Andy Bowie Park and Isla Blanca Park remained open.
The high tides destroyed many areas of the beach. The National Weather Service in Brownsville said dune erosion was caused by the high tide on Sunday evening.
Forecasters say the surf has since receded and the damage of the erosion can now be evaluated.
