An Edinburg man has been sentenced to prison following his conviction for possession with intent to distribute over 11 pounds of cocaine while taking advantage of his position at UPS, according to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas.

Federal prosecutors had to wait more than a decade, but a high-ranking Gulf Cartel member accused of smuggling nearly seven tons of marijuana has pleaded guilty.

Comments this week included thoughts on Cesar Chavez’s legacy, over-the-counter birth control medication, states’ rights, the Rio Grande Valley’s water needs and inflation, in addition to continued debate regarding major parties’ presidential candidates and positions.

As a veteran civil rights attorney, I have often been struck about how quickly a leader’s legacy disappears from one generation to the next. Perhaps this is because, as a society, we do not do a good job of creating a narrative about important leaders to pass on to our children and those who come after them.
