The Mission CISD Board of Trustees has been selected as a Texas Honor School Board by the Texas Association of School Administrators, according to a district news release.
According to the release, Mission’s board is one of just five top boards from across the state recognized for their work on things like the curriculum audit, increasing the fund balance and improving district culture.
“This is an extremely deserved honor for our Board of Trustees to be selected as one of the top five school boards in the state of Texas,” Mission CISD Superintendent Carol G. Perez wrote. “Our School Board has made our district and community very proud! They work diligently every day for our students and staff.”
The selection means Mission CISD is in the running for being named the Texas Outstanding School Board of the year.
The evaluation process for that title includes looking into the board’s role as a policy making body, its adherence to adopted policies, its support for educational performance of state standards, its support for educational improvement projects and school transformation initiatives, along with a commitment to a code of ethics, provision of financial support for the school system and participation in workshops and other performance improvement programs.
The Mission board includes its president, Minnie R. Rodgers and trustees Jerry Zamora, Veronica “Betty” R. Mendoza, Petra B. Ramirez, Juan M. Gonzalez, Iris Iglesias and Roy Vela.
The announcement of the winner of the Texas Outstanding School Board is expected Sept. 25 after boards are interviewed by the TASA School Board Awards Committee.
