Cameron County reports 5 virus deaths

Five more Cameron County residents have died from COVID-19 related causes, the health department reported Thursday.

The individuals included one person in his 50s, one person in his 60s, two people in their 70s and one person in her 80s.

Deaths were reported in Brownsville, Harlingen and San Benito.

This raises the total number of coronavirus-related deaths here to 1,042, Cameron County Public Health said in a statement.

Also Thursday, the health department said it has confirmed an additional 47 COVID-19 cases in Cameron County, bringing the total number of cases here to 23,174.

The new cases include five children ages 9 and younger, 12 people aged 10 to 19, eight people in their 20s, three people in their 30s, seven people in their 40s, six people in their 50s, four people in their 60s, one person in his 80s and one person in her 90s, the health department said.

New cases were reported in Brownsville, Harlingen, La Feria, Los Fresnos, Olmito, Primera and San Benito.

There have also been an additional 106 individuals who have recovered, raising the total number of recovered individuals to 20,647.
