HARLINGEN — His friends have commended him on his memory for detail.
They’ve fished with Lynn Frizzell all over Texas, Colorado and the vast Pacific and traveled with him all over Mexico, but they don’t remember half of what he does.
Now the Valley Morning Star columnist has put it all in the book, “Adventures of a Life Long South Texas Outdoorsman,” which he will present Saturday at Johnny’s True Value.
“It’s in four sections,” said Frizzell, 85, a 1953 graduate of Harlingen High School where he was a basketball star in his senior year.
“These are all personal experiences of hunting and finishing and Mexico travel, and some poetry,” he said.
These days the retired banker enjoys the solitude of his home on the Rio Grande river in Zapata County where he did most of his deer hunting. He went fishing in the rivers and lakes of Texas and springs of Colorado, bill fishing in the Pacific Ocean, and harvesting the bounties of the Gulf of Mexico.
“I have been in the woods since I was five years old,” he said. “Some of these stories were published in the Valley Morning Star until COVID.”
Frizzell recalled traveling with friends in the 1970s from Roma, Texas, to Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta.
“There are a lot of things about that trip that some guys don’t recall,” he said. “Some people said they are amazed by my memory. I have traveled to 24 of the 32 states in Mexico.”
The book will interest a wide range of people.
“The Mexico trips would be of great interest to people who don’t care anything about hunting,” he said.
The book, which is available on Amazon for $17.50, is about 170 pages of stories, photos and illustrations. Frizzell said he would autograph and sell copies at a discounted price on Saturday.
