The Community Historical Archaeology Project with Schools Program, or CHAPS Program, at UTRGV has developed a traveling museum exhibit that showcases all historical eras of Fort Brown history called “Discovering Fort Brown.”
The CHAPS Program has two main goals: tell stories, and share the rich history of the Rio Grande Valley. This exhibit was designed to travel easily to many different venues throughout South Texas and beyond. It will stand at the Harlingen Arts & Heritage Museum, 2425 Boxwood St. now through September 30, 2019. You’re invited to visit the museum to see this outstanding exhibit and to attend the opening reception on Tuesday, July 30, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Other exhibits currently on display are an art exhibit by Alexander Comminos, “On Down the Line,” and a “Mosaic Art Exhibit” by Marco Martinez. For more information call 956-216-4901.
The RGV Byliners and the Harlingen Public Library invite you invited to an evening of poetry reading and sharing at the Harlingen Public Library on Tuesday, July 16, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Poems must be family- friendly and poets of all ages are welcome! The Tip O’ Texas Genealogical Society will meet on Thursday, July 18 at 10:15 a.m. at the Harlingen Public Library to air a video from Rootstech 2019. The Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Genealogical Society will not be meeting during the month of July.

The 40th Texas Hispanic Genealogical and Historical Conference, October 3-5, is being hosted by HOGAR de Dallas at the Omni Hotel Dallas at Park West. The theme of the conference is
“Honoring Our Ancestors: A 500-Year Journey Back to Hernán Cortés.” There will be a stellar list of speakers including Arturo Cuellar, Accredited Genealogist, FamilySearch.org; Schelly Talalay Dardashti, Genealogist, U.S. Genealogy Advisor, MyHeritage.com; Dr. Roberto R.
