Chamber looks for volunteers

SAN BENITO — Have a few extra hours in the week?

The San Benito Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteers to help with the day-to-day operations of its office and future events.

Executive director of the chamber Anna Putegnat said the chamber has opportunities for residents with time to help out.

“We’re only requesting a couple of hours a day,” Putegnat said. “If they want to do more they can. The more the merrier. We would love to have them.”

Putegnat is the only paid employee for the chamber and took over for Sandee Alvarez last week.

While the volunteer program has been in place for awhile, Putegnat is putting out the call to the community for more volunteers as she eases into her new position.

“Since I am new in the position I would love to have more volunteers,” Putegnat said. “They can get an insight on what is happening and look at our major businesses.”

Currently, the chamber only has one consistent volunteer who works on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Putegnat said she is looking for a volunteer or multiple volunteers to be present on the other days of the week or help out on the days they can.

Students or residents older than 18 can use the opportunity to receive community service hours.

“We have a lot of events and a lot of opportunities happening so volunteers are needed,” Putegnat said.

Putegnat said she is looking for committed people who can volunteer a couple of hours of their time and help with answering the phone, filing and setting up for community events.

“It’s a great way to learn more about the community you might be staying in,” Putegnat said.
