Adriana Duran has Lady Bulldogs on verge of District 32-3A title

Thanks to the strong play of senior Adriana Duran, the Lyford Lady Bulldogs are fighting for a share of the District 32-3A title.

With a 5-1 league mark (19-10 overall), the Lady Bulldogs face a simple yet difficult dilemma. Beat IDEA Quest twice – once tonight and against next Friday in a makeup game -and they split the conference title with Santa Rosa. However, if they lose one of the games, they have to settle for second place.

But if the Lady Dogs want to go for the gold, they’ll have to rely on Duran, who in a 44-36 win over Santa Rosa last week scored 12 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, had four steals and one assist. Meanwhile, in a win against Monte Alto, she had a 24-point performance while bringing down five rebounds and three steals.

For her outstanding performances, Duran is this week’s Valley Morning Star female Player of the Week.

“She is consistent game in and game out,” said Lyford head coach Teresa Gutierrez. “We can look to her to get both our offense and defense going. She is a great two-way player that often guards the other team’s best player.

“She’s a great leader on the floor and she only knows one speed and that’s fast. She gets a lot of steals on defense which leads to fastbreak points for the team, but she also drives to the basket aggressively and gets fouled a lot.”
