NWS issues wind advisory for coastal counties

BROWNSVILLE — Hold on to those steering wheels.

The National Weather Service in Brownsville has issued a wind advisory for coastal Cameron and Willacy counties that will remain in effect until 3 p.m. today.

The NWS reported a strong cold front was to move through the Rio Grande Valley overnight, bringing hazardous driving conditions to coastal Cameron and Willacy counties.

Strong northerly winds were expected to develop behind the fast-moving cold front late Thursday night into today. They are expected taper off sometime this afternoon.

A wind advisory means that winds of 30 to 39 mph are expected. The NWS reported winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Drivers are urged to use extra caution.

Temperatures were expected to fall after midnight through early this afternoon. They are expected to hover between 47 to 52 degrees. Factor in the north winds, and it will feel more like the upper 30s to lower 40s.

Also, there is a 60 to 90 percent chance of rain today and a 50 percent chance of rain tonight. There’s a 60 percent chance of rain Saturday.
