Those two statements don’t seem to fit, but they’re a perfect match for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Harlingen Annual Barbecue to be held on Friday. Those holding an $8 will get a plate of barbecued brisket prepared by the Harlingen Fire Department, along with sides of rice and beans, at the Main Unit at 1209 W. Washington Ave.
The event is one of several annual fundraisers for the city’s Boys and Girls Clubs. The organization’s five units offer sports, academic support, arts and crafts and other activities to more than 5,000 children throughout the city.
Those wishing to support the Boys and Girls Clubs should purchase an $8 ticket at the Main Unit today and Thursday between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. They’ll take the ticket to the same location the following day between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. and receive a barbecue plate along with gratitude from 5,000 kids and their directors.
