A tribute to great Harlingenites

I write today in great admiration and appreciation to Matt and Patty Gorges for the New Teen Lounge announced for young patients at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.

Their contributions to VBMC provide special treatment for cancer and other diseases and maladies that they have supported.

All of their gifts to the people of Harlingen have not been for medical relief. They created the most pleasant fountain and bronze statuary garden at Harlingen Public Library gifted to the local citizens.

How fortunate Harlingen is to have them here.

Let me mention some other unselfish natives of Harlingen who graduated from Harlingen High School, graduated from colleges and universities in Texas and returned to come home to grow their families, build their businesses and careers and give back to the community.

Recognize the support that the Frank Boggus family has made to Harlingen and the many projects he has endowed. Those include the Salvation Army and the nursing and medical schools at VBMC and others too numerous to enumerate.

Lee and Laurie Richards continue to contribute and support education.

Rollins and Amy Koppel Foundation most recently gave the playground equipment at Lon C. Hill Park to al the citizens and support to the VBMC Cancer Center and others.

Bobby and Robin Farris have made generous donations to VBMC. He is a graduate of MMA and UT.

Dial Dunkin provided a needed infant care facility to VBMC and has been a strong supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Harlingen.

I mention these that I have been fortunate to know and apologize to others that I have omitted. I especially emphasize that these Harlingenites and others belong to different churches; are givers; not takers; have served in political and advisory positions; some have been in the military; and support different political parties.

They are all patriotic America.

God bless them and theirs. God bless the USA.
