South Padre Island hires new parks manager

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — The City of South Padre Island hired Anne Payne as the new parks and recreation manager.

The position was vacant after the retirement of longtime city employee Mary K. Hancock.

“Please feel free to stop by and introduce yourself to Anne,” said Susan Guthrie, City manager. “She is anxious to hear from residents about their vision for our city parks.”

Payne was previously the Liberty Hall manager in Tyler, East Texas Medical Center marketing associate, and executive director for Habitat for Humanity of Smith County for 12 years.

She will oversee parks and recreational programs, special event permits and managing all aspects of the community center and parks.
