SAN BENITO — Too much mud.
The 10th annual Texas Independence Day Celebration and Symposium, scheduled for yesterday, was postponed until next weekend.
This was because the rains on Friday reduced the San Benito Fairgrounds to a field of dark sludge.
This means the army of Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana will have to wait a few days before taking on The Alamo defenders.
“We had to postpone the Market Days and the reenactments and the Art Show until next Saturday,” said Fred Garza, founder of the Texas Heritage Independence Celebration Association, Inc.
“The cook-off went on,” Garza said.
THICA presents the annual event commemorating Texas Independence Day.
Garza said although the event is being postponed until Saturday, the change won’t affect the planned activities.
Local talent will present reenactments of the Battle of San Jacinto and the Battle of Gonzalez, as well as the Battle of the Alamo.
Audiences especially enjoy watching from bleachers as Mexican soldiers in blue and white uniforms face off Davy Crockett, Gregorio Esparza and other Alamo defenders.
