Business makes donation to help local Boys & Girls Club

HARLINGEN — Sam’s Club of Harlingen presented on Friday morning a $2,000 check to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harlingen.

Through the Community Grants program, stores, clubs, distribution centers and transportation offices can support the needs of their communities by providing funding to organizations working to improve the lives of customers, associates and neighbors.

This belief is clearly expressed by Helen Walton’s own words, “It’s not what you gather but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived.”

The Boys and Girls Club of Harlingen provides a variety of educational and recreational programs for children ages 6-18 from the greater Harlingen area.

The organization provides special programs for area adults and other special groups.

Among the club’s hallmark programs are its sports leagues, Summer Programs, including its Summer Food Program that feeds over 675 children each day, and its Community Service Programs.

The club’s programs are designed to help people from all areas of the community grow as individuals and function in team settings.

These programs help create a variety of positive environments that encourage and foster the long-term growth and development of the individual.

As the individual grows, he or she becomes a more vibrant and positive force in the community — thus the community benefits.
