HARLINGEN — An officer of Sunny Glen Children’s Home has resigned after he and another person were arrested Saturday.
Shay Williams, 40, chief operating officer and son of Sunny Glen Director Jay Williams, was asked to resign after Shay and Bonnie Jean Rodman, 32, were arrested on felony child endangerment charges.
At about 11:19 p.m. on Saturday, officers were called to the 600 block of North Ed Carey Drive in reference to a call about a child left unattended inside a black Jeep Cherokee in the parking lot.
Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle and a girl under the age of 2.
Shortly after that, officers located Rodman and Shay Williams.
A police press release said Rodman and Shay Williams had custody and control of the child and had left her inside the vehicle under circumstances “that exposed the child to an unreasonable risk of harm,” while they were patronizing the Tipsy Tavern bar.
Jay Williams said that as soon as he was alerted to the incident, he asked for Shay’s resignation.
“He was also told that he could not return to campus,” Jay Williams said in a phone interview yesterday.
Officials at the children’s home accepted his resignation.
