HARLINGEN — The boy lies on the dock, looking into the water, dreaming, wondering, yearning.
The water offers liberation, unity, discovery. It’s a messenger he hopes will carry his letter in a bottle to a far away place, where a young girl might discover it in the surf.
The work “Tu Cuento un Cuento” is part of the exhibit, “IN BETWEEN” (No Soy de Aqui, Ni Soy de Alla) by Sergio Garcia opening today at Beyond Arts Gallery at 114 North A. St.
The show is mixed media, using ceramics, acrylic paint and other materials. The exhibit “Tu Cuento un Cuento” revealing the boy on the dock is made of ceramics for him and glass for the bottles. Garcia, a Brownsville artist, seeks to extend many messages to viewers.
“The intention of my artwork is to communicate how fascinating I find the spiritual world and how it is deeply connected with the physical realm whether one is aware of it or not,” Garcia said. “My interest has been to show how the invisible is usually more real than what can be seen.”
