San Benito man convicted of sexual assaulting friend’s children

A San Benito man is sentenced to 34 years in prison for sexually assaulting the children of a friend who hired him to do odd jobs.

It took a jury only four hours to find Jose Antonio Escobedo guilty of aggravated assault of a child and indecency with a child by sexual contact.

According to the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office, because of the age of the victims, Escobedo is not eligible for parole and will not be allowed out of prison until 2050.

The DA’s office says Escobedo was homeless and without a job when friends offered to pay him to do odd jobs around their home.

Officials say the children reported the assaults.
