Today is the last chance to vote early.
Voters who miss the early voting period will still have one final opportunity to vote Nov. 8, but a tremendous showing is expected on Election Day, Cameron County Elections Administrator Remi Garza said.
As of Thursday morning, 47,751 votes have been cast in Cameron County’s general election. That number is significant in respect to the volume of voters and the percentage of the entire voter base, Garza said.
“We’re at 24 percent (of all eligible voters) and still have two days left (to tally),” Garza said. “Historically, just under half of our voters vote in the early voting period, so we could be looking at close to 100,000 voters or more participating.”
If that happens, Cameron County will have a 55 to 60 percent voter turnout, the highest the county’s turnout has ever been.
Today, five polling sites will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.: the Cameron County Courthouse, the Brownsville Public Library, the Harlingen County Annex Building, the San Benito Community Center, and the Los Fresnos Community Center.
