Harlingen Superintendent Art Cavazos has just been appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott to the State Board of Educator Certification.
The 11-member board oversees all aspects of certification of teachers and administrators. Cavazos is now one of only two administrators on the board.
He believes he was appointed because of the transformation occurring in the Harlingen school district.
“I’m humbled and honored to be asked to serve on this statewide board and represent our educators on this board,” he said.
