Mission-native Geraldo Perez has been named vice president of a prominent investment firm with a focus on the Rio Grande Valley.
Perez will help lead the San Antonio office of Siebert Cisneros Shank & Co. (SCSCO), a minority and woman-owned firm. The 17-year banking veteran will specifically focus on the Valley’s infrastructure needs, according to a news release issued by the firm.
“I am excited to join such a dynamic and accomplished firm,” Perez stated in the release. “I have seen first-hand the pressing needs of the Rio Grande Valley region, and I believe that SCSCO will play a vital role in helping to ensure these fast-growing communities have the vital infrastructure in place to thrive into the future.”
Since its founding in 1996, the firm has funded over $2.5 trillion of critical capital and infrastructure financing needs, according to the release. Perez said the firm had already been looking into expanding in South Texas when he came on board.
Henry Cisneros, principal and chairman of the firm’s executive committee, was formerly the mayor of San Antonio and also former secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
With the growing population here, there is a need for more infrastructure in the Valley, not just municipal but educational as well.
“School districts throughout — all the way from Brownsville in Cameron County up through Roma in Starr County that are all growing — will from time to time need either updates to schools,” Perez said, “or adding additional elementary or junior highs and high schools.”
Perez, who was born and raised in Mission, received a BBA in Corporate Finance from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. He most recently worked in managing fixed income portfolios at Matterhorn Capital Management in San Antonio.
He said he looked forward to working with Cisneros in San Antonio and admired him since he was a child.
“We have a small but dynamic team here in San Antonio, and we are excited about the opportunity to serve South Texas,” Perez said.
“I can’t stress enough the firm-wide focus in serving and reaching out to South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley, and I’m excited to be a part of that.”
