In a poll, USA Today confirmed what Rio Grande Valley residents and others have known for generations: Cameron County has the two best beaches in Texas.

Unlike SpaceX CEO Elon Musk's first two live Starship presentations at the company's Boca Chica/Starbase production and testing complex, members of the media were not invited to an April 4 presentation at the site, only SpaceX employees.

SpaceX wants to deposit Starships in the Indian Ocean as many as nine times over the next 12 months, all of them launched from Boca Chica, according to an 119-page environmental assessment (EA) from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Starship S28 and Super Heavy B10 lifted off from Boca Chica at 8:25 a.m. Thursday for SpaceX’s third Starship orbital flight attempt, after being granted permission by the Federal Aviation Administration on Wednesday afternoon, and loaded with more than 10 million pounds of propellant in both stages.

The Texas 13th District Court of Appeals has unanimously overturned a ruling of Cameron County’s 445th state District Court in a lawsuit brought by SaveRGV, the Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter and the Carrizo/Comecrudo Nation of Texas Inc. against Cameron County, the Texas General Land Office and intervenor Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton over SpaceX-related restrictions to public beach access.

SpaceX managed to get two Starship orbital launch attempts under its belt in 2023, the first on April 20 and the second nearly seven months later on Nov. 18, both launching from the company’s Starbase rocket production and testing complex at Boca Chica.
