SpaceX has applied to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for a permit to release an average of up to 200,000 gallons of treated wastewater per day into South Bay at Boca Chica.

The Federal Aviation Administration announced Friday morning that it has closed the mishap investigation into SpaceX's first Starship orbital launch attempt, which ended in the spacecraft exploding over the Gulf of Mexico about four minutes after launch from the company's Boca Chica Beach facility on April 20.

SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk, in an April 29 “Twitter Spaces” conversation with followers, discussed aspects of the April 20 orbital launch attempt from Boca Chica of Starship SN24/Super Heavy BN7, the largest, most powerful rocket ever to have flown.

A group of national and local environmental organizations on Monday filed suit against the Federal Aviation Administration for allegedly “failing to fully analyze and mitigate the environmental harms resulting from the SpaceX Starship/Super Heavy launch program at Boca Chica.”

SpaceX appears to have seriously miscalculated how well its orbital launch pad would hold up during the inaugural launch of its Starship-Super Heavy from Boca Chica/Starbase on April 20.

On Thursday, the tallest, most powerful rocket ever to fly lifted off from SpaceX’s Boca Chica/Starbase launch site 22 miles east of Brownsville as the crow flies, reaching an altitude of approximately 26 miles and a speed of more than 1,340 mph before exploding over the Gulf of Mexico three minutes and 59 seconds into the flight — a success, in other words, from SpaceX’s perspective.

At the site of the SpaceX Starship launch at Boca Chica Beach on Thursday morning, hundreds of people hoping to catch a glimpse of the launch watched from Texas State Highway 48.
