Harlingen High running back Izaiah Bell ran wild on San Benito’s top-ranked defense, helping the Cardinals soar past the Greyhounds in the RGVSports.com Game of the Week. His 23 carries for 286 yards and four touchdowns earn him the RGVSports.com Week 9 Player of the Week award.

Bell, a senior, set the tone for a big night on the Cardinals’ third offensive possession of the night, breaking a 92-yard touchdown run to give Harlingen High a 14-0 advantage through one quarter.

A fumble during the third by Bell set up San Benito’s first lead of the game, capping a three-touchdown surge by the Greyhounds. The Cardinals’ senior responded in a big way, scoring the game’s final three touchdowns to lead the No. 2 Cardinals past the No. 3 Greyhounds during the 2022 rendition of the Battle of the Arroyo.

This season, Bell leads the Valley in scoring, finding the endzone 21 times for 126 points. His performance Friday night helped him eclipse the 1,000-yard rushing mark, bringing his season total to 1,050 yards and 19 touchdowns on 95 carries. Bell has added nine receptions for 179 yards and two touchdowns, also recording a touchdown pass against Laredo United earlier this year.

Bell and the Cardinals (8-0, 3-0) return to action at 7 p.m. Friday against Brownsville Rivera (2-6, 0-3) at Boggus Stadium in Harlingen.
