Stores offering free consults for flood survivors

Two big-box hardware stores are teaming up with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to offer rebuilding tips to disaster survivors.

Residents from Hidalgo and Cameron counties who are rebuilding and repairing their homes after the severe storms and floods of June 18-21 can visit Lowe’s or Home Depot stores to get free hazard mitigation consultations from FEMA representatives, the agency said in a news release.

“Advisers will be on-hand to answer questions about rebuilding and protecting homes from future disaster-related damage,” the release stated. “Topics include flood insurance and elevating of utilities.”

Most of the information provided will be geared toward do-it-yourself work and general contractors, FEMA officials said.
