PSJA ISD’s ‘spin’
PAJA Superintendent Daniel King is using The Monitor to get ahead of bad news. Which schools are failing and will be closed? He should be asking why nepotism hasn’t worked to get good effective teachers? How can we reach these kids? Instead, King’s answer is “MO’ MONEY!”
According to Wikipedia, in public relations and politics, spin is a form of propaganda, achieved through providing a biased interpretation of an event or campaigning to persuade public opinion in favor or against some organization or public figure.
As such, a standard tactic used in “spinning” is to reframe, reposition, or otherwise modify the perception of an issue or event, to reduce any negative impact it might have on public opinion.
While spin is often considered to be a private sector tactic, in the 1990s and 2000s, some politicians and political staff have been accused by their opponents of using deceptive “spin” tactics to manipulate public opinion or deceive the public.

Democrats not to blame
I always read any letter from Ned Sheats that is printed in The Monitor, and usually I agree with him. But this time I have to disagree with his premise that Democrats control everything in the Rio Grande Valley. Maybe in name, but in reality, I believe that 40 percent of them are closet Republicans. They cannot get elected as a Republican because of their ideology, so they run as a Democrat. Yet look at how they support and donate to Republicans and campaign for their initiatives?
As per Sheats’ corruption charge, this is an epidemic all over America. I believe it is caused by the scandal-a-day events at the White House and I think the American people see a chance to circumvent law and order and they are taking advantage of people who are looking the other way. We are on the verge of anarchy in America.
The deficit under President Donald Trump has increased by $2 trillion. We are deporting fewer people under Trump and the numbers keep getting worse.
People: Get your head out of the sand and voice your opinion before it is too late. Hardly anyone voted in the bond election in McAllen. Shame on you.

Explaining voter apathy
Thanks for allowing me a few words on the recent low-voter turnout. It seems that people don’t vote because they don’t feel elected officials really care for their input. The local leadership doesn’t even address citizen issues. For instance, I have had no luck trying to reach a commissioner on a problem. No one pays attention,or does not give a hoot! Should I go to TV and complain to them?
My complaint has to with a business that is being run in a family neighborhood and with people walking dogs in our Brisas del Norte neighborhood who don’t live here. I hope the mayor or commissioners, city manager look up the ordinance that allows dog care in a family neighborhood. I will not thank anybody for this!
