Letters: Protest tax bill

Please, county residents, open your eyes to what is being done to our home taxes. The appraisal district has risen home prices an average of 35% or higher. This will only raise our taxes significantly.

Pretty soon, no one in our county will able to purchase a home because of the high prices. If you notice there is more and more apartment/housing rental construction. This is where the county will be, nothing but rental homes. The builders of these apartments are the ones who will be profiting from this disregard of high home taxes.

Everyone who is a property/house owner, protest this ridiculous appraisal district property value increase. Do not take their word, your property value will increase.

Are you ready to sell your home? Like most of us, this is our home. We will be paying for this ridiculous increase in property taxes. Please protest.

City

blasted

I just saw where the PSJAISD paid $3.3 million to the city of Pharr to use a swimming pool for their students’ needs! The city got lots of money so I would think they would tell public works to mow our alleys.

The weedy lots are an eye sore to our residents!

When I was the streets and alleys supervisor I had a crew that mowed the alleys and another crew that took care of the weedy lots!

I called the public works department and the director told me that city hall big shots like the two city managers and a deputy city manager who earn more then $150,000 each plus two city attorneys who also earn lots of money told him not to mow the alleys!

It’s not our responsibility to mow the alleys and sweep the curbs! The alleys are so awful that there is an abundance of rats and opossums that have houses in the grass and weeds!

I worked 20 years with the city so I know all about the property lines and curbs and gutters of which the residents should take care, but the city should mow the alleys and weedy lots.

The director told me he has 63 employees, but I’ve seen them just riding around in the air-conditioned trucks all day without a care in the world!

My work crew of Albert Rosalez, Pancho Ortiz, Ramiro Ramirez, Jesus Garza, Raul Ramos Jr. and Romeo Ocanas were all hard workers and they put the current city public works department to shame!

In my opinion Mr. Polo Palacios is the best Pharr mayor ever and with Mr. Benny Lopez as the city manager our city looked nice and clean because the alleys and weedy lots were mowed like they should be!

Make America great again.

Whence

the hate?

The word “hatred’ has been bantered around in this forum frequently, which has me wondering: Where might the reservoir for such “hatred” exist?

Is it the conveniently characterized nemesis that is identified by the authors with the most vile social, moral or political attributes they can conjure up, often followed up with an always winning, obviously logical argument as to why such individuals are a detriment to our society or country as a whole?

I wonder, however: Is it the conveniently identified nemesis that harbors the hatred, or maybe, just maybe, the identifiers, i.e. authors, themselves?
