Republicans have become far too radicalized

Ya basta! “Blame the Democrats,” printed April 10, overflowed with disinformation.

Stating that Democrats are somehow associated with socialism, Marxism, Nazism and fascism and blaming them with putting unlawful crossers and “their laziness first before struggling working Americans” was very confusing.

The illegals who come are anything but lazy. You call walking a couple thousand miles lazy? Those illegals really want to work but are prohibited by our laws and Republicans not wanting them here. We could really make America greater if we were to put them to work.

House Republicans stated that they would have an immigration policy ready two weeks after gaining control. That didn’t happen. They are the party that refuses to enact many immigration laws. They even refuse to pass legislation for Dreamers. The current Republican leaders act like fascists or dictators. They do not support the will of the people.

The vast majority of Americans do not favor abortion bans. Republican leaders want to completely ban abortion while at the same time support keeping assault rifles that are maiming and killing our citizens and kids in schools. They have many un-American beliefs: ban books in schools, make trans kids the butt of humiliation; trying to limit speech about LGBTQ students’ questions, and talk about critical race theory (which I never heard mentioned during my 50 years as a teacher).

Many Republican leaders in Texas do not really support our public schools. They supported vouchers for all private schools and only the House of Representatives stopped it. They are giving Texas teachers a $3,800 raise. The average teacher pay in the U.S. is $65,090 and Texas teachers make $57,671. Texas prides itself on being great. It is not great on teacher pay. Texas teacher pay is well below the national average. Republicans are the party of chaos. They make voting more difficult. They do not accept defeat in elections because they want to tear down hundreds of years where truth mattered. They want to retain power at all costs.

Critical race theory is really saying nothing. I never heard of it being taught in our public schools in Texas. It is being used to stop the teaching about Black history. It is just another shameful way to blame minorities and try to keep them silent. It is another fascist, total control feature of the current Republican leaders. The state of Texas is being sued by five women who did not have proper access to cervical care. Between 10% and 20% of women have

miscarriages during pregnancy. Many authorities think it is closer to 25%. Around 80% of all miscarriages occur during the first trimester, which is between 0 and 13 weeks. A Trump-appointed judge wants to ban the drug mifepristone that has been approved in the U.S. for 23 years.

The women suing Texas did not have access to abortion. Men, in legislatures, messing up women’s lives. Men, especially legislators, should be smart enough to let the medical experts and the women make their own decisions with their own bodies. There are many thousands of women in this country who need complete medical care and are not permitted to get it in Texas. That is why the five women are suing.

Many Republicans want to disband and completely do away with the FBI. That is exactly what a dictator or strongman would do. The FBI aggressively investigates hate crime, color-of-law abuses by public officials, human trafficking, involuntary trafficking and involuntary servitude, and freedom of access to clinic entrance violations.

Republican Gov. Greg Abbott wants to pardon Sgt. Daniel Perry, a white man who was convicted by a jury of killing Garrett Foster, a Black man, in 2020. He has not even been sentenced.

In Tennessee, two Black representatives were kicked out of the legislature. They were attempting to get assault rifles banned and common-sense gun regulations enacted. The Republicans cannot seem to stand up for our country’s values. On Dec. 4, 2022, ex-President Trump called for the termination of the Constitution to reinstate him to power. On Jan. 6, 2021, a mob of his supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol. Trump told his Save America March supporters to go to the Capitol and “fight like hell.”

That was the first and only attempt to overthrow the U.S. government in our entire history, and yet Republican leaders still support him! I was a Republican for the first 30 or so years of my life. I was proud that Lincoln and the Republicans freed the slaves. Then the Grand Old Party changed with radicalization of The John Birch Society.

This fairly new radical Republican Party is something to seriously consider. If you are a real conservative Republican with core values, believe in old-time values of truth, justice and the American way, please speak up and do not accept the status quo.

Republican leaders supporting Trump are acting like fascists.
