Letters: Respect umpires

To whoever is in charge of the BrownsvilleParks and Recreation Department:

I have been coming to umpire in the parks-sponsored men’s slow-pitch softball league for the last 25 years and have been involved in this league as a player, coach, manager, team sponsor and umpire for more than 45 years. So I know firsthand what I’m talking about. I’m not just some naive, fly-by-night, don’t-know-what-he-is-talking-about official.

I was amazed just how bad the players acted toward the umpires. Their actions, their foul language and just their overall behavior was rude and offensive. And it will probably get worse until some serious actions are taken by those in charge of the nightly league play.

One team was completely out of line, screaming and shouting negative remarks toward the umpire on just about every call he made, giving the umpire a difficult time during the game.

We umpires understand that not everybody is going to be happy with our play calling. But the constant aggressive putdowns directed at the umpires are just bad and wrong.

The director of the BrownsvilleParks and Recreation Department needs to take some serious action before it gets completely out of control. Some serious rules changes need to be implemented. Some serious, hard-core leadership is needed. Whoever is handling the nightly actions at the BrownsvilleSportsPark needs to make some decisions to better control the league.

I spoke to all of the other umpires and they all agreed and said the same thing. This league is getting out of hand. We umpires are starting to fear for our lives, and that is not acceptable.

What is woke

Curriculum?

I read that Gov. Greg Abbott was starting a campaign to promote vouchers for private schools as a way to provide parents an choice because public schools teach a woke curriculum. And I am very confused and would like some clarification.

When do the public schools actually teach woke stuff? I have been involved with public education all my life. I have taught in public schools. Most of my friends are public school teachers, and I have not heard anything about this. If anything, most controversial subjects are avoided. I would like to know exactly what the problem is. Why is our governor suggesting that our state take away needed funds that are meant to provide quality education to many Texans so that a few can go to private schools?

Before they start to pull money from our public schools the governor, and his campaign, should describe what the woke curriculum is and tell us the exact times and places the woke curriculum is being taught.

Using

cartels

The USA continues to ignore the elephant in the room when it comes to drug cartels. Instead of Destroying them, the U.S. uses them as a tool and keeps them getting richer and stronger.

Today they control the Mexican government 100% and 30% of the U.S. government. Tomorrow they will own us if we continue to ignore this problem. We may end up with a Venezuela or Cuba next door to us. We are losing that buffer safe zone of protection gradually.
