Letters: Please explain punishment

Ms. Coronado, or anyone of like mind, please elaborate with detailed examples how it is that President Biden is “punishing the 76 million Americans who did not vote for him” (Dec. 25 23).

Every administration has its missteps, even disasters. Two of Biden’s worst:

On the international scene, most people would acknowledge that withdrawing the U.S. from Afghanistan has been a costly, even unnecessary and ongoing tragedy, especially for the women and girls of that country.

On the domestic front, the chaos on the southern border shows little leadership from the Democrats, almost wanton cruelty from the Republicans, and no bipartisan solutions anyone will yet advance, at least not publicly, if they even exist.

But Sen. John Cornyn’s letter of Jan. 11 New Year’s Day enumerates all the ways the Omnibus Appropriations Bill of 2023 will strengthen national security and benefit Texas in particular, especially on border issues.

And the earlier bills already passed, such as the American Rescue Plan, the CHIPS Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, plus others making fewer headlines, would seem to benefit the country as a whole, and for the long haul.

In just the first half of his first term, Biden is being compared favorably to FDR and LBJ in getting more things done that are to the advantage of the entire country than any other president in decades. Even Newt Gingrich acknowledged in an extensive, recent interview on NPR that Biden is dismissed and made fun of at his opponents’ peril. So, how is it that that selective “punishing of 76 million Americans” is being perpetuated? Please provide specifics.

Trump

hailed

Below are a few things President Trump accomplished that the uninformed may not be aware of:

He nominated three pro-Constitution Supreme Court justices who were confirmed.

He appointed a great many pro-Constitution justices to lower federal courts.

He was responsible for the Abraham Accords peace agreement between Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain in which the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain recognized Israel’s sovereignty, enabling the establishment of full diplomatic relations.

He moved America’s U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Israel’s capital, Jerusalem, where it always should have been, and had been promised to be moved by our presidents Bush, Clinton and Obama but never was.

He got North Korea to stop missile testing.

He got North Korea to return the remains of American MIAs missing since the Korean War.

Unlike many previous presidents he did not start any foreign wars.

He was responsible for “The First Step Act” eventually passed by Congress, which cut unnecessarily long federal sentences for non-violent crimes and improved conditions in federal prisons.

He cut a lot of federal bureaucratic red tape and created one of the strongest economies in many decades.

His policies created economic benefits to inner cities that hadn’t happened since World War II.

He had in the works a workable plan to remove civilian Americans from Afghanistan, bring home all of our military equipment, and then remove our remaining military forces.

He was building the southern border wall and reducing illegal border crossing.
