Letters: Celebrating the servers

I want to pay homage to all the people who serve others — doctors and all personnel in medicine, those who run to save someone regardless of their own safety, and everybody who is in some kind of service, including those who sweep the floors.

They serve because they have good hearts and they’re the reason there’s so much harmony around us. They take responsibility for getting up to serve others, maybe 30 or 40 years.

Sometimes we live selfish lives. It’s just me and nobody else. Some don’t realize what their partners mean to them. Some have hardened hearts. And some have hearts that God has worked with who love to serve and care for their families like the Lord asked us to.

I wanted to write this letter not for any selfish reasons. I just wanted to show my gratitude as one person walking this earth. I’ve been blessed to have lived 71 years. Maybe He’ll take me tomorrow. I’ve accepted it; it’s His will.

I’m not an ugly person. I’m ornery, but I’ve learned good things throughout my life and I want to share them and speak well of the people I’ve met along the way.

Love your neighbor.

It’s not necessarily a religious or political statement. It’s just one human to humanity.

Being a Democrat is harder than being a Republican. Democrats offer a helping hand. With Republicans, it is the finger.

The head of the Hidalgo County GOP is in court for aiding her brother’s alleged sexual abuse of teenage girls (The Monitor, Oct. 20). Ms. Adrienne Peña-Garza’s concern was how it would adversely affect her brother’s political value.

A candidate who is running for an Arizona college district’s governing board was arrested for allegedly masturbating close to a school in early October.

Randy Kaufman, the Republican candidate for the Maricopa County Community College District governing board, was arrested and charged with public sexual indecency after police said he was masturbating less than 200 feet away from a preschool. I guess the GOP is no longer God’s Own Party. It now stands for God’s Own Perverts.

Three local GOP candidates used race as a campaign issue against their opponents. And not one of them is saying what they will do to improve the status of the RGV. All three of them are lying like Trump. Lying must be pre-forgiven for the GOP members.

Two things are needed to make elections better and less crooked. We should use the Canadian method of campaign finance. Companies, unions and political organizations are not allowed to donate to political parties, politicians or individual campaigns. The total money spent on Canada’s last national election was $504 million. Just the 2022 Texas governor’s race was $100 million. Their maximum time for campaigns is 50 days.

Eliminate the outdated Electoral College for president and vice president. The popular vote should determine the winner. That is how a democracy should work.
