Letters: O’Rourke criticized

Kudos to Mr. Joel Ramirez for his letter on Oct. 19. He hits the nail squarely on the head. Mr. Beto O’Rourke has no place in the governor’s office.

He is completely oblivious on how to govern a state — any state, let alone the Lone Star. This guy, O’Rourke, does not have any idea of what it takes to fill the seat of governor. This individual is just winging it and running for several offices to see which one sticks. He should be elected as canine chaser; he might have a chance to do something there.

I am sure that whoever votes for Beto is just pulling the “Democrat palanca.” If you’re voting with any sense you know this guy would be a disaster for the Great State of Texas and all of its citizens. We’ve already gotten a dose of that with the current guy in the White House.

The choice is clear. Steer away from Peter’s Principle.

Position

statement

A big shout-out to my fellow writers to the editor in this great newspaper. I’ve been thinking of running for the Pharr City Commission in 2023 because I know I have the qualifications needed to be an excellent city council member!

I’ve been talking to my fellow Pharr residents and recently I was surprised when a lady friend told me that I shouldn’t run because I was a Republican! My family, my adult children and my close friends know that I’m very conservative; I’m very pro- life and I have and believe in old-fashioned values! Truth is, I’m am independent who votes for the person and not the party, but in my old eyes (I’m 68 years young) and in my heart I lean toward the Republican way of thinking such as the big open borders among others.

I worked for the city for 20 years as a public works employee and I was the streets and alleys supervisor for three years, where I helped many Pharr citizens with their complaints. I was in charge of street paving, drainage, weedy lots and mosquito control, so if elected I will have the knowhow when facing city council projects.

When I talked to the Pharr residents, they were surprised that I would talk to them in person the same day they called with particular problems and their complaints would be taken care of by my excellent work crew, like Albert Rosalez, Pancho Ortiz, the late Romeo Ocanas, Jesus Garza, Sergio Llanas and Raul Ramos Jr.

So yes, I have conservative values, and if elected I won’t ask the Pharr residents if they are Democrats, Republicans, liberal or conservative when they come and see me with their complaints plus, I’ll invite them for coffee and pan dulce, si dios quiere!

As for my lady friend who said I was a Republican, please be assured that I’ll help you also.

Government

insanity seen

Basically, nothing changes in American government. Americans are doomed by a legislative political system that focuses on rewarding legislators and their special interests. Point being, our legislative officials become millionaires in office.

We need to change it, but the big question is, how do we even start?

Term limits, vote in new blood, stop special interest contributions and lobbying?

It’s not easy when the very people who could change it are the same legislators who benefit from the way it is.
