Migrant services

cost us taxpayers

Opinion Pages from some news media and some politicians along the Texas border hypocritically complain about the high cost of Operation Lone Star to secure our border ($4 billion-$5 billion, The Monitor, July 21), but ignore realities actually devastating hardworking Texans:

Texas government statistics show:

Texans pay between $579 million and $717 million each year for public hospital districts to provide uncompensated care for illegal aliens.

Texans paid $152 million to house illegal criminal aliens for just one year.

Texans pay between $62 million and $90 million to include illegal aliens in the state Emergency Medicaid program.

Texans paid more than $1 million for the Family Violence Program to provide services to illegal aliens for one year.

Texans pay between $30 million and $38 million per year on perinatal coverage for illegal aliens through the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

Texans pay between $31 million and $63 million to educate unaccompanied alien children each year. “

“Texans are hardworking and generous people, but the cost of illegal immigration is an unconscionable burden on the taxpayers of our great state. If we use the minimum estimated costs for services Texas provides to unlawfully present and undocumented aliens, taxpayers are shelling out an estimated $855 million every year,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a March 21 news release.

Bear in mind these statistics have been ongoing for numerous decades.

Mission

Capitol riot

downplayed

Former President Donald Trump made a grievous error in having the rally in WashingtonD.C. on Jan. 6, 2021. I suspect he had an idea that things might go sideways, so he claims he asked Nancy Pelosi for security; Pelosi says she never received any request, which is about what I would expect from Speaker Pelosi, who infamously tore up President Trump’s State of the Union speech for all to see.

Furthermore, a National Guard presence probably would have been seen as a pre-emptive move by Pelosi on President Trump’s part to stay in power. Either way, all we have is a one-sided Jan. 6 committee that is composed of two Republicans, both of whom loath President Trump, and the rest are Democrats of equal sentiment, most notable Adam Schiff, who swore under oath that he had irrefutable evidence that President Trump was a Russian operative and never produced any evidence to support his claims. That being said, you have a committee that with the help of the media turned a riot into an armed insurrection, and the only person shot was a female rioter who was unarmed and shot by a Capitol Police officer. She was the only person who died of a gunshot wound that day; one protester was crushed by the mob according to the medical examiner, another protester died from a heart attack and another from a stroke. Three Capitol Police died, one

the following day from a stroke possibly due to the stress of the riot, and the other two committed suicide according to the New York Times. However, their deaths, if ruled in the line of duty, would entitle their families to enhanced benefits.

President Trump famously called Washington “the swamp” and the creatures that inhabit that swamp are both Republican and Democrat, a self-serving breed that could not stand the outsider who ran the White House like a business, and a prosperous one at that. The swamp would like

nothing more than to have President Trump indicted for treason; after all, he was impeached twice and a conviction would disqualify him from ever running for office again. Either way, for the Democrats it makes for a colorful distraction from an inflation rate not seen in more than 50 years, coupled with rising gas prices and interest rates that are at all-time highs. If you ask the current occupant of the Oval Office, it’s all Putin’s fault.

Mission

Troubled

by letter

Joel Ramirez’s letter of July 31, “Genius Trump,” troubles me.

All during the former president’s tenure the rule of law was sabotaged and also our

country’s tranquility!

Instigating an attempted coup with the intent to overturn President Biden’s legitimate win, all so that the former president could remain in office!

Surely, this administration cannot be the sole culprit of all the issues Ramirez states in his letter. Congress, world conflicts, illegal immigration, gun control, inflation, gas prices, supply and demand can be attributed to many world/country factors.

Does toxic politics play a grand role in the “American first” mindset?
