Letter: Fascist Trump

The definition of fascism is authoritarian power that uses violence against opposition. Donald Trump incited his supporters to storm the Capitol to stop the peaceful transfer of power that is a basic fundamental part of our system of democratic governance.

Trump has not accepted the fact that the majority of Americans did not want him as president. He lost the election so he decided to take the presidency by force, in other words a coup to stay in power.

Now it has been revealed that he wanted to go to the Capitol with his supporters to stop the count of election and assume power by force. We’re lucky his Secret Service didn’t let him go to the Capitol.

It has also been revealed that Trump wanted the Secret Service not to stop supporters who were armed and let them into his rally. Then he incited the attack on the Capitol.

Taking power by force is a classic fascist move. We cannot allow this to happen if we want to preserve our democratic system of government.

The Trump presidency legacy will be “all the norms were broken, all the rules were tossed out the window.” Trump treated the presidency like his personal kingdom.

This is a quote by conservative Republican Liz Cheney, who has chosen country over Trumpism.

“Conservative Republicans must choose between Trump and the Constitution.” Cheney recently spoke at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

Every conservative who cares about the future of American democracy should listen to her speech.
