Letters: Show evidence of Trump win

Texas Republicans adopted a resolution at last month’s convention rejecting President Biden as winner of the 2020 election and essentially accepting Donald Trump’s claim that he won it.

Before reaching this momentous decision, Texas Republicans must have carefully considered all evidence and testimony available from within and outside Texas, including Trump-appointed Attorney General Bill Barr, who has testified in opposition, responsible Republican officials appointed by Trump to oversee the election, and that being presented by more top Republicans at the ongoing Jan. 6 House select committee hearings.

Having compiled exhaustive supporting information, Texas Republicans should share it for all Americans to see, especially the more than 60 courts that got no such evidence and ruled contrary to their resolution and for our congressional officials who may have mistakenly declared Joe Biden the winner based on the fact of record that he won about 7 million more votes than Trump and 306 electoral votes to Trump’s 232, as Republican Vice President Mike Pence certified on Jan. 6, 2021. The select committee asked for those with relevant information on this matter to bring it to their attention.

This is the responsible thing to do by Texas Republicans for which I and the American people would be grateful. The same applies to other positions included in the Texas GOP platform for which they surely must have fully considered what is in the best interests of all Texas residents.

Biden

blasted

What a joke Joe Biden’s administration has become! The Monitor’s front-page article (U.S. seeks help controlling “unprecedented” flow of migrants, June 11) is very symbolic and symptomatic of the Biden’s failed administration and policies.

He is literally begging for help from other countries to control illegal immigration into the U.S. 507 he had to do was leave the Trump rules in place and we wouldn’t be in this mess with this unprecedented level of immigration.

It has been reported that nearly 2 million people were encountered by federal law enforcement while attempting to enter the United States illegally over the past year. Illegal immigration to the U.S., the magnitude of which cannot be fully known because of how many illegal crossers evade federal police and get away, has risen at a faster rate in the first nine months of Biden’s tenure than any time in the Border Patrol’s 97-year history.

Biden entices people to break the laws of our country and cross illegally our borders. He ignores the needs of Americans. He neglects immigration law on a whim.

In part, the presidential oath states, “I do solemnly swear that I will … to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

According to the U.S. Constitution, Congress is given the power to manage and oversee immigration concerns. Biden has flagrantly and shamelessly disregarded his presidential oath by neither supporting nor defending the immigration rules legally set forth by Congress. His policies have been a disaster for the U.S., and he should be charged with dereliction of duty. Biden is a perfect example of a president who needs to be impeached and relieved of his duties immediately for the good of the country.

Missive

addressed

In one of my letters to the editor, I quoted former Republican strategist Steve Schmidt who said, “Every single GOP member of Congress who will not confront Trump’s rantings, delusions and non-stop lies is simply ‘unfit’ and ‘unworthy’ to be a United States Congressman.” And I asked, “How does one explain the number of idiots who are now occupying positions of power in our government? (Meaning the likes of Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham, Lauren Boebert, “Perjury” Taylor Green and others). Joel Ramirez from Edinburg took this to mean that I was talking about the Biden administration (Letters, June 16). He even imagines me agreeing with him that Biden is an idiot. Huh? I know, I know, typical right-wing nuttiness.

The facts: Joe Biden ran for president of the United States. He defeated the other Democrat candidates and then trounced Donald Trump. When Biden’s tenure is over, we the people should decide who will be our next president, not some disgruntled poor loser with lynch mob backing him up. The problem, however, is that Republicans feel they have to resort to cheating to win elections.

And just in case the cheating and the billions of dark dollars that line their pockets doesn’t work, their back-up plan is to do away with democracy and replace it with an autocracy. So, what say you, Joel? Will our next president be elected by a democracy or by a lynch mob?

Credit “the Wise You” for the following phrase that I believe is appropriate here: “Cheers to all the people who can change their minds when presented with information that contradicts their views.” The information is out there. If it’s not reaching your eyes and your ears it’s because you’re either purposely ignoring it or “Faux” News is your main source of information.

Fascist Trump

Republicans

The Jan. 6 hearings have revealed many fascist Donald Trump tactics. The hearings have revealed specific details of how Trump and some of his inner circle were putting enormous pressure on Vice President Mike Pence to disregard election laws and his sworn duty to defend the Constitution. Even putting his life in danger. Pence didn’t do what Trump wanted, but instead followed his sworn duty to follow the law and the Constitution.

Trump also put great pressure on Republican Arizona elected officials and Georgia election officials to “find” 11,780 votes to put him over Biden’s total votes. Trump supporters harassed the Republican Arizona House speaker outside his home while his daughter was dying inside. Fortunately for our democracy, these Republican officials who voted for Trump twice held their duty to law and the Constitution over their loyalty to Trump. They refused to break the law for Donald Trump.

The hearings also revealed in detail how Trump supporters terrorized an election worker and her mother and even invaded their grandmother’s home yelling that they were making citizen’s arrests. This happened after Rudy Giuliani and Trump himself spread lies specifically using these poll workers’ names many times.

Long before the election, Trump started brainwashing his supporters, repeating over and over that if he lost the election it was because it was rigged. He repeated this over and over and over so much that he actually convinced them. When he did lose, his supporters were already primed to believe the big lie.

It has been proven that Trump was told by his staff including the attorney general over and over that there was no fraud. Trump to this day is still lying to his supporters about the election being stolen from him.

The Trump wing of the Republican Party have and still are engaged in fascist tactics that have no place in our American democracy. Indeed Trumpism has become fascism!

Conservative Republicans outside the Trump wing who are still dedicated to uphold the law and defend the Constitution should realize that as a country we need to move on from what Trump represents.
