Letters: Migrant trips are welcome

In response to Mr. Jose C. Coronado (Letters, May 10) (Your Voices, May 6) , while President Biden is not receiving asylum seekers personally, I can say that the families are thankful to the state of Texas for sending asylum seekers at a cost for Texas.

A one-way ticket to Washington, D.C., is about $400. Imagine the savings for a family of four.

Most asylum seekers leave the border area. Many go to the East Coast.

Can you ask Gov. Abbott how much the state of Texas has spent so far on this program? Another failed attempt by the governor to make himself look like he is doing a good thing for Texas. How much money has he spent on this issue of asylum seekers, which by the way is legal?

Overturning

Roe vs. Wade

If our courts do indeed overturn Roe vs. Wade, women’s rights will be taking a huge step backward. Do we really want our friends and neighbors suing other friends and neighbors over something that has nothing to do with them?

Trump

Presidential statements?

Electing a man for president who has made the following statements:

When arriving, that the White House is “a dump.”

About John McCain: “Does being captured make you a hero? … I like people that weren’t captured.”

He claimed he has a “very, very large brain.”

“My IQ is one of the highest — and you all know it.”

“I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose any voters.”

About religion: “Why do I have to repent and ask for forgiveness if I’m not making mistakes? When I drink my little wine … and have my little cracker, I guess that’s a form of asking for forgiveness.”

About national security:, When asked by Bill O’Reilly about Vladimir Putin being a murderer, Trump answered, “There are a lot of killers, we have a lot of killers; what — you think our country is so innocent?”

Being a pathetic liar because he knows his supporters don’t care about the truth: “I got to know (Putin) very well because we were both on 60 Minutes.”

A few months later he said, “I’ve never met him, I don’t know who he is.”

His ignorance: “Nobody knew health care could be so complicated.”

Ignorance: “We have to prime the pump. Have you heard that expression used before? I came up with it a couple of days ago and I thought it was good.”

About women: “I moved on her like a bitch. … I just start kissing them, … I don’t even wait, and when you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything. … Grab them the by the (genitals).”

Bragging about his penis during a national TV presidential debate: “(Marco Rubio) referred to my hands; if they’re small then something else might be small. I guarantee you there is no problem; I guarantee you.”

Making all these statements in public and still getting elected is quite an indication of what White privilege is. Or it might be that his supporters hate the same people he hates and that’s good enough for them. I guess dignity, honesty, knowledge and civility don’t mean anything to these people anymore.

One thing for sure: He is not the kind of person who should be the leader of the United States of America, not if we claim to be the best country in the world.

I hope conservative Republicans return to their traditional conservative ideology and oppose what Trump wants to turn this country into. Democracy doesn’t work with one-man rule, that’s a dictatorship.
