Recently I went to Walmart to make some purchases. After I had put more than 40 grocery items in my basket, I headed for the checkout lanes. To my surprise, all of the cashier checkout lanes were closed. And I’m talking around 2 p.m.
I asked a passing Walmart associate when and if any cashier checkout lanes would open. She told me, “Sorry, sir, but they are all closed. You will need to go to the self-checkout unit to scan your items.”
I was appalled. But then it came to me: I remember a few months back Walmart making a big deal about giving salary raises to its employees, or as they call them, associates.
So, to do that of course, they had to close their cashier checkout lanes and let go some associates. They just keep a few to mind the self-checkout lanes.
So, Walmart shoppers, let us all understand the truth. Yes, the Walmart employees who received their well earned raise came at the expense of many other employees.
Let us be honest with ourselves: Walmart is a heartless employer and to them profits come first and the welfare of their employees, no matter how loyal, come second.
So customers of Walmart, those raises they splashed all over the media did come at a price. So, the next time you are at a Walmart store and like me have more than 40 grocery items, demand for a manager to come, and have him/her open a cashier lane and scan your items. Unlike me, that have to scan all of my 40-plus items.
I believe Walmart owes me about 30 minutes pay for the work I did of scanning my grocery items myself.
Because of the greed of this Walmart store, next time I purchase groceries I’m taking my business to H-E-B. At least they have not only cashiers to scan your groceries, but employees who also take your groceries to your car. They even have employees do the shopping for you and deliver your groceries to your home. Now there is a business that cares about its customers.

In the April 23 Vida section, Around Town has an item stating that the Hidalgo County GOP is committed to upholding conservative values!
Now this old man is wondering, what they are talking about? What I see and read about the GOP nowadays is lying, lying and lying! The aspiring speaker of the House is denying his recorded statements when he was criticizing President Trump about the insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021. He also was recorded in 2016 saying Vladimir Putin was paying Trump, which he is denying now.
The congresswoman from Georgia under oath refused to admit she has said and supported the insurrection by saying she doesn’t remember those times. Is this woman senile? The chief of staff for Trump is registered in three states and has voted in two states. These people sure had a good teacher in Trump according to the newspapers, 50,000 and counting.
Now we know where Trump is getting his information about there being fraud in the elections. His own party is responsible for 99% of the fraudulent voting. I find this behavior from our elected officials despicable.
If Putin was paying Trump then, is this why his tax returns are so secret, because they would show where his money was coming from? Every president has done this for decades except for Trump!
America needs transparency.
