At the end of his game at the Masters, Tiger Woods walked from the 18th hole back to the club house with a noticeable limp. Even though Tiger didn’t even get close to winning, a multitude of colored but mostly white hands applauded his every step with what seemed to be sincere love and admiration. It was a heartwarming scene to see.

The scene at the confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson was not so heartwarming. On the Republican side of the aisle, it was downright dismal. Forty-seven out of 50 Republican senators couldn’t even muster a measly fake applause to acknowledge Judge Jackson’s historical appointment to the Supreme Court. It was as if these dimwits purposely wanted to be on the wrong side of history. And, of course, loony Lindsey Graham had to put his poop on top of the celebration cake.

“This would never have happened if Republicans were in the majority,” he whined.

And what was his motivation? To show the world how idiotic he can be? Please Lindsey, no mas. The whole world already knows what a pathetic senator you are.

And here’s another one. A contributor to The Herald on April 12 wrote that “many readers” seem to be in a self-induced state of hysterical confusion; they think Donald Trump is still president. The writer didn’t say who the “many readers” are, but it’s safe to assume one of them is Donald Trump. The Donald still thinks he’s president because his Republican sycophants still think he’s president. Why else would they continue to seek his consultation, his adulation and his approval? Are Trump and his fanatic brown-nosers hysterically confused? Maybe. It sure seems so.

There are those who think Trump was a great president and those who think he was not, including some very prominent Republicans. So, if you think Trump was right for America, consider this: If a Hitler-wannabe Putin interferes in our elections, is it OK for a Putin-wannabe Trump to cheer him on? If yes, then I suppose the intentional dismantling of our democracy by these two dismal examples of world leaders is of no concern to you. After living in a successful democracy for almost 250 years, can you imagine what living under an autocracy will be? Hoo-boy, what a heart-rendering experience that would be. Ask the Russian people.

The breed of current Republicans cannot win without cheating, and our democracy cannot survive if these cheaters successfully suppress our right to vote. Don’t vote for cheating wannabe autocrats! Vote for true Americans who are loyal to America! Vote Democrat!

Nuclear power

increase sought

The Monitor deserves congratulations and praise for two recent articles pertaining to nuclear energy and nuclear power plants. The first article (March 25) described various advanced reactors including a small, liquid sodium-cooled experimental reactor that may soon be constructed in Wyoming. The second article (April 20) described efforts by the U.S. Department of Energy to rescue four nuclear power plants now scheduled for closure. Informative articles such as these are needed to help dispel outdated misperceptions and raise awareness of the importance of nuclear power.

There are compelling reasons why the fraction of electricity generated in the U.S. nuclear (now only about one-fifth of the total) should be increased. This is especially the case in view of current events in Ukraine.
