Letters: Hollywood criticized

I have not watched the Academy Awards in years, 15 if memory serves correct. I just don’t see the purpose of wasting several hours of my life to watch people praise one another, spout off political, racial and religious ideology on their adoring fans.

This information garnered from the next-day news about how various actors espoused their rants about the aforementioned subjects. Their mindset is “I’m better and holier than you,” and this group of elitists wouldn’t give you the time of day if you asked them.

Example: A very famous comic and movie actor was asked by a young boy at a California Angels baseball game for an autograph and he told the young man, “Sorry, I’m not into that $&!#.” The dejected lad withdrew his pen and paper and fans who witnessed began to boo the actor, who quickly left the game.

There are dozens of stories of these people not wanting to show any sort of kindness or humanity to their fans, and those that do are few and far between.

I neglected to use the term “movie star” because that era ended in the late 1960s. Pre-Vietnam war-era actors were “movie stars.” They didn’t use “Hollywood magic” to make a movie; in those days it was all blood, sweat and tears, and don’t get me wrong: All these “movie stars” of the past were not perfect; they like all of today’s actors were flawed to varying degrees. The difference is that the previous bunch owned up to their shortcomings and offered apologies for their misdeeds.

Today’s actors are a blame-shifting non-apologetic sort, who always find blame in the other guy. Just look at the death of a director on a western movie set; the actor in question claims he’s not to blame, the production and safety crews are not to blame, and so goes the story.

That is why this guy won’t subscribe to any of the expensive TV channels. Just give me oldies TV where real “movie stars” grace the screen.

America

Putinized

Isn’t it about time Americans understand how Putin invaded Ukraine so easily?

Russians follow his orders because Putin has his hands on the means of communication (news and education agencies) and also on the means of force (the regular police and the secret police).

When Putin says, “Ukrainians started this,” his political minions put it out as truth and the people believe it. We have many adult children in America today who follow their leaders to the edge of dangerous cliffs every day.

Putin also talked his country into allowing him to stay in power for 22 years. In a real democracy, there are always short term limits that are enforced like the nation’s life depends on it. Not in Russia or China.

Our representatives and senators are not telling this story because they are well along the path of accumulating corrupt lifetime power themselves. America is already partially Putinized.

True democracies put government into the hands of a constitutional law decided upon by all of the people. The people only know what to put into that law when they have thoroughly versed themselves in their own history and the history of other nations.

We have already disarmed our minds, so our liberties are quickly melting away.
