The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley is inviting the public to its Empty Bowls Paint Party Kick-off, which is set to transpire at the Radisson Hotel McAllen Airport.

The event is slated for this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the hotel, which is located at 2721 S. 10th St.

There will be hot dogs and hamburgers provided by the hotel, in addition to a DJ, door prizes and more to celebrate the Empty Bowls season kick-off, the release stated.

Those interested in attending the family-friendly event must pay a $10 donation per person to cover the costs of paints and supplies for the food bank.

All of the bowls painted will be used for Food Bank RGV’s biggest fundraiser, the release stated.

That fundraiser, the food bank’s Empty Bowls Luncheon and Silent Auction, will take place on Oct. 17 at the Bert Ogden Arena. The food bank will also celebrate the fundraiser’s 17th anniversary.

The bowls serve as a reminder of those facing hunger across the Valley.

With the purchase of a ticket at either Empty Bowls event, attendees will be able to choose a hand-painted ceramic bowl as a keepsake, the release stated.

Last year, about 200 painters gathered at the hotel to paint bowls. The 16th annual luncheon was also held at the Bert Ogden Arena, where officials said over $130,000 was raised.

The organization directs those seeking more information about Empty Bowls or other food bank events to contact Philip Farias, manager of corporate engagement and special events, at (956) 904-4513 or [email protected].
