LA FERIA — After a three-year absence due to the pandemic, La Feria was chosen to once again host the Jehovah’s Witnesses global three-day convention, titled “Exercise Patience.”

From Friday, May 26 through Sunday, May 28, six convention sessions will explore the quality of patience, highlighting its modern-day relevance through Scriptural examples, according to a press release.

“Patience is an endearing quality. As Christians, we strive to display that quality in our daily lives, but it can be a challenge when abrupt and difficult changes happen in our lives. Spending three days exploring the aspects of patience will be timely and beneficial for all of us,” said Rick Cantu, spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Prior to 2019, summers in La Feria were marked by Jehovah’s Witnesses’ annual conventions at the La Feria Assembly Hall. In 2020, the pandemic forced the Witnesses to canceled their in-person events throughout the world and held their convention programs as virtual events in more than 500 languages.

“We appreciate that we were able to have virtual conventions because they kept us safe and reached millions of people worldwide. But nothing compares to the joy of being together at these large gatherings,” Cantu said.

Some 6,000 conventions will be held worldwide as part of the 2023 “Exercise Patience” series. In the United States alone, more than 700 conventions will be held in 144 host cities.

A live baptism will be performed following the Saturday morning session, and a prerecorded drama will be featured in two parts during the Saturday and Sunday afternoon sessions.

The convention is open to the public and no collection is taken.
