A 20-year-old Edinburg man pleaded guilty on Monday to receiving child sex abuse material, or CSAM, depicting prepubescent minors, according to a news release from the United States Attorney’s Office Southern District of Texas.

Lazaro Segundo-Vazquez admitted to obtaining over 1,800 images and videos containing child pornography.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted authorities to a residence in Edinburg appearing to be uploading CSAM to a Google account.

“The investigation revealed Segundo-Vazquez received images and videos containing child sexual abuse material via a third-party messaging application on his cellular phone,” the release said.

Segundo admitted to receiving child pornography that included videos and images of prepubescent children and toddlers depicting them engaged in sexual acts with adults and other children.

He then uploaded several of the images of CSAM to a Google account.

According to a criminal complaint, the Texas Attorney General’s Office contacted the Rio Grande Valley Child Exploitation Investigation Task Force on May 4 last year with an investigative referral from Google.

Investigators later identified Segundo and encountered him at his residence on Feb. 1.

When Segundo agreed to speak to authorities, he acknowledged what child pornography was and that it was illegal which led investigators to ask for consent to look through Segundo’s phone.

He agreed.

“The cellular device of Segundo had several online applications which contained images and videos depicting prepubescent children engaged in sex acts with adults and other children, constituting child pornography pursuant to 18 United States Code Section 2256,” the complaint said.

Segundo admitted to receiving the CSAM using his cell phone from April 6 of last year through Jan. 29 using various online applications.

He’s set to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ricardo H. Hinojosa in August.

Segundo is facing up to 20 years in prison.
