A 21-year-old San Benito man was indicted for assaulting federal agents with his vehicle, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Texas.
According to the charges, authorities attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Hector Eduardo Gamez on May 2. He allegedly refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed.
Gamez nearly collided with three federal agents who arrived on scene to assist, according to the charges. Authorities apprehended him following the pursuit.
A federal grand jury returned the three-count indictment on May 16.
If convicted, Gamez faces up 20 years in prison and a possible $250,000 maximum fine.
The FBI conducted the investigation along with the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Marshals Service, Texas Rangers and the San Benito Police Department.
