Do you think you know who Mission High School’s basketball court should be named after?

If you do, Mission CISD is in the market for suggestions.

Candidates for the name must have made a significant contribution to the district and to the athletic program, a news release said.

They must have coached or participated in a district sport for which the facility will be used, have served in notable positions of service and leadership, and should represent qualities that serve as a “model of excellence” for students.

The namesake cannot be a current board member or employee, and if it is someone who once served in those capacities, they must have left their position at least three years before the year in which the facility will be named.

“Recommendations received from the community will be reviewed, scored, and ranked by a naming committee that will be responsible for making a final recommendation to the Mission CISD Board of Trustees,” the release read.

The building that houses the basketball court, a spokesperson clarified, will retain its official name of V.F. Neuhaus Health and Physical Education Center.

Name recommendations and the reason behind them should be sent to Craig Verley at Mission CISD’s Public Relations Department, 1201 Bryce Drive, Mission TX 78572.

Recommendations are due by May 26.
