Do you have old tires you want to get rid of?
Well, you’re in luck. Through a regional collaboration between cities and counties across the Valley alongside the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council, tires can be recycled at five sites for the 2023 Road to Recycling project.
While the project kicked off earlier this week, there are still opportunities to recycle old tires until Saturday.
Here are the locations you can take old tires to:
>> Commissioner Sofia Benavides’ Precinct 1 yard, located at 9091 N. Oklahoma Ave. in Brownsville. They can be reached at (956) 574-8171;
>> Commissioner Joey Lopez’s Precinct 2 warehouse, located at 7092 Old Alice Rd. in Brownsville. They can be reached at (956) 574-8175. This site will operate until Friday;
>> Commissioner David Garza’s Precinct 3 warehouse, located at 26945 FM 510 in San Benito. They can be reached at (956) 361-8209;
>> Commissioner Guz Ruiz’s Precinct 4 warehouse, located at 26641 White Ranch Rd. in La Feria. They can be reached at (956) 423-1878;
>> and Cameron Park Centro Cultural, located at 2100 Gregory Ave. in Brownsville. This site will only be operating on Saturday.
The hours of operation from now until Friday are 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. For those open on Saturday, the hours of operation are from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Those interested in recycling their old tires, here are the guidelines:
>> Proof of residency required (either a driver license or utility bill);
>> Up to four tires per household (only car and pickup truck tires);
>> The following tires are not allowed: oversized tires, tractor tires, tires with rims, large tires or commercial tire shops.
