With fanfare that included drum cadences and mariachi music, Raymondville Independent School District officials opened a new on-site clinic April 12 to a large crowd of city, county, state and law enforcement officials.

The Raymondville ISD Health Clinic will provide training to students aiming for medical-related careers and also provide medical care for school district employees, as well as county and city workers and even Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, sheriff’s deputies and others.

The RISD Health Clinic is located at 419 FM 3168, next to the Raymondville ISD tax office, and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed from noon to 1 p.m.), Monday through Friday. To schedule an appointment, call 956-689-8152.

The clinic will not only be open to students and school staff members, but also to all public servants, said Deputy Superintendent Ben Clinton as he snipped a traditional ribbon to signify the grand opening.

A goal of the clinic is to save time and trouble for parents, students, teachers, school staff members and others who provide vital service to the community but don’t have time for long stays in waiting rooms of doctors’ offices and clinics, he said.

Work on the clinic began about a year ago during the coronavirus pandemic, Clinton said.

But its roots go back to the mass community vaccination program carried out in the parking lot at the high school during the pandemic, when hundreds of cars filed through as various local entities organized through Willacy County Emergency Medical Service and other local programs provided vaccinations to the public.

“We are excited to be opening the RISD Health Clinic and to provide our community with high-quality health care services,” said Superintendent Stetson Roane. “This clinic will make health care more accessible and convenient for our students, staff members and public servants, and we are pleased to share this momentous occasion with the community.”

The clinic, which has modern facilities and the latest equipment, has private examination rooms, a laboratory and X-ray facilities.

Blood can be drawn and processed in the laboratory there to help diagnose patient conditions.

Staff includes Nurse Practitioner Irene Ramirez and Dr. Albert Ramirez from Smith Family Medicine, assisted by nursing students.

“Our goal with the RISD Health Clinic is to provide high-quality, accessible and affordable health care services to the community,” Clinton said. “With same-day appointments available and little to no wait time, you can receive prompt and efficient care when you need it.”
