Last day for voter registration in McAllen election is this Thursday

Early Voting is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 24, and run through Tuesday, May 2, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Polls will be closed on Sunday, April 30.

With the first day of early voting just around the corner, voters in the city of McAllen’s May 6 general election will have until Thursday to register to vote.

There are three seats up for grabs on the McAllen City Commission, but the District 4 seat is the only contested race.

Incumbent Commissioner Rodolfo “Rudy” Castillo, a business owner, is set to face off against Javier Salazar, a real estate agent. District 5 Commissioner Victor “Seby” Haddad and District 6 Commissioner Pepe Cabeza De Vaca are running unopposed for reelection.

Early Voting is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 24, and run through Tuesday, May 2, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Polls will be closed on Sunday, April 30.

Polling locations for early voting will be at the Firemans Pump House, located at 201 North 1st Street; Palm View Community Center, located at 3401 Jordan Avenue; and Lark Community Center, located at 2601 Lark Avenue.

In order to be eligible to register to vote in Texas, residents must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of the county and at least 18 years old. Residents must also not be a convicted felon, with exception to a person whose sentence has been completed — including probation or parole. Lastly, residents must not be declared mentally incapacitated by the court of law.

Voters are required to be registered 30 days prior to Election Day.

Anyone interested in registering to vote for the city of McAllen May 6 general election may do so by filling out an application at the city of McAllen City Secretary’s Office, located at 1300 Houston Ave. on the second floor.

The last day to apply for a mail-in ballot is on Tuesday, April 25. Applications must be received, not postmarked, by the said date.
