Abbott reappoints retired Mission police chief to Texas Civil Commitment Office

Former Mission Police Chief Robert Dominguez has been reappointed by Gov. Greg Abbott to the Governing Board of the Texas Civil Commitment Office.

The appointment was announced last week in a news release from the governor’s office.

Pending ​​Senate confirmation, Dominguez is set to serve a term that will expire on Feb. 1, 2029. His reappointment was announced along with that of Christy Jack, who will continue serving as chair.

The announcement comes nearly one year after Dominguez’s retirement from the Mission Police Department where he served for 35 years.

Dominguez, a native of Elsa, has continued to serve as a member of the Texas Police Chiefs Association. The Texas Municipal Police Association, the Texas Police Association, and the Texas Sheriff’s Association.

The former police chief previously served as a member of the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council Regional Police Academy Advisory Board and Homeland Security Grant Review and Appropriations Subcommittee; South Texas College Police Academy Advisory Board; city of Mission Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Board; and Mission Traffic Safety Committee.

He is also a three-year trustee of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 9698 and holds a Bachelor of Science from Pan American University.

The Texas Civil Commitment Office is responsible for providing monitoring and treatment of civilly committed sexually violent predators.
