WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez is calling for “aggressive” enforcement to combat the fentanyl crisis, citing the drug’s corridor through U.S. ports of entry.
Gonzalez spoke out while participating in a congressional hearing aimed at examining and combating the illicit financing fueling the fentanyl crisis in a Financial Services Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance and International Financial Institutions titled “Follow the Money.”
“Clearly, there is a lack of political will here in the United States and in Mexico and that is our fault,” Gonzalez said during the session Thursday. “Regardless of what party is in power, this has been going on for way too long.”
“We can use better technology on our ports of entry,” he said, adding “over 90% of the fentanyl that comes into our country, comes through ports of entry.”
“It needs to be addressed aggressively,” he said.
