Although a cold front will pass through the Rio Grande Valley Tuesday, it won’t drop temperatures that much but will bring much needed rain to the area.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy counties are in severe drought conditions. Starr County is in severe and extreme drought conditions.

The cold front will push through the Valley sometime Tuesday bringing rain chances between 50 and 70% during the daytime and a 60% chance of showers on Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service Brownsville/Rio Grande Valley. There’s also the potential for thunderstorms Tuesday night.

“Tuesday night we will continue to see rain associated with a frontal boundary that moved through earlier in the day. In wake of the boundary, overrunning with a nearly saturated moisture profile will keep rain chances and a few rumbles of thunder in the forecast into Wednesday. This is good news to help put a bit of a dent in drought conditions,” the NWS said in a forecast discussion.

There’s a 40% chance of showers on Wednesday.

The high temperatures on Tuesday will be in the upper 70s and the overnight lows will be in the 60s. The high temperatures Wednesday will be near 75 degrees and the lows Wednesday night will be around 69 degrees.

It will begin to heat up again toward the end of the week with highs near 83 degrees Thursday, and near 86 degrees Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
