Victims in deadly McAllen hotel stabbing identified; Alamo man charged

Carlos Antonio Cardenas

The McAllen Police Department has identified the two men killed in an early morning stabbing at a Motel 6 Saturday.

In a news release, police said 42-year-old San Juan resident Luis Eduardo Garza and 45-year-old Keith Henry Cole, of Richmond, Virginia, died in the stabbing.

The suspect in the case, 26-year-old Alamo resident Carlos Antonio Cardenas, has been charged with capital murder, attempted murder and burglary of a vehicle.

The stabbing happened at 6:25 a.m. that day at the Motel 6 in the 700 block of Expressway 83.

A prior news release said that police responded to the location after a man who was bleeding went into the hotel’s lobby saying he “does not want to call PD [Police], [that if RP] called the PD that they will kill her too.”

This person also said that there is someone on the second floor in the stairway by the pool and that a possibly armed and intoxicated male is trying to get into the front desk, according to the release.

Police who responded found a man on the ground and a man with a knife, who they arrested. They found the two victims deceased and determined a third person was on an adjacent property, according to the release.

That man is 32-year-old McAllen resident Ernest Galvan. The news release announcing Cardenas’ arrest said the suspect attempted to stab Galvan.

On Monday, Cardenas received a total of $906,000 in bonds on the charges.
